DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JUNE 21, 2024! Register for our first ever Young Composers Seminar! Richmond Symphony and VCUarts are proud to share this special opportunity for young composers. Join acclaimed composer Damien Geter on the journey from inspiration to performance next season as he leads a cohort of young composers through a unique musical experience.

Eligible to students in grades 9–12 during the 2024–25 school year, our young composers will gather monthly both in person and online to share and workshop their projects with Damien and each other, culminating in a special live performance in May 2025.

Whether you think of yourself as a composer or not, students interested in directly participating in the process of creating new music are encouraged to apply. Formal training in composition is not required.

To apply, please complete the application form on our website and submit up to three examples of your creative work by Friday, June 21, 2024.

Audiences include youth musicians and their families, music teachers, and other members of the Richmond performing arts community.

YCO and RSYO students, this is your last chance to apply for this season’s Social Media Team! The application closes tomorrow on Wednesday, September 3 at 5:00 pm. Students will learn how to identify trends, write copy, and shoot content while working alongside Anna Mitchell, Education & Social Media Coordinator. This opportunity is open to YCO and RSYO students ages 15+.

We kicked the season off today with Youth Concert Orchestra’s first rehearsals of the season. The coming months will bring the start of our remaining Youth Orchestra ensembles, two sets of Hopkins-Eggleston Discovery Concerts, another year of the Future Music Educators Symposium, and more. Plan ahead now for the most exciting field trip of the school year 🎶🔬🦢 We’re pleased to announce that registration for this year’s Hopkins-Eggleston Discovery Concerts is now open! 

Held during the school day, Hopkins-Eggleston Discovery Concerts engage young minds through exciting full orchestra performances that correlate with Virginia Standards of Learning. Hopkins-Eggleston Discovery Concerts are open to public, private, and homeschool groups. This year’s performances will be The Science of Sound (October 29 and 30, grades 3–8) and Carnival of the Animals (February 18 and 19, grades pre-K–3).
