Science Museum of Virginia Presents Pre-Show Demonstration At Upcoming Family Concert

The Richmond Symphony’s first Family Concert of the year, The Science of Sound, teaches students about how orchestral instruments create sound and learn about the mechanics of sound waves, ranging from outer space to the deep sea, and is presented in collaboration with the Science Museum of Virginia.

Listen up! We’re exploring the science behind sound waves. We’ll blow your mind—but not your eardrums—with the power of sound.

If you’re attending this weekend’s Family Concert, The Science of Sound, come early and join the Science Museum of Virginia before the show for a demonstration exploring the science behind sound creation. This presentation will take place at 2:00pm in the Education Center at the Perkinson Center for the Arts & Education.

Interested in attending this weekend’s concert? Tickets are still available on our website! Click here for more information.

Congratulations to the 6th cohort of our Future Music Educators Symposium (FMES), who just presented a special showcase on their final day of class! ✨ The students participating in this year’s symposium included high school juniors and seniors from across the state of Virginia. Throughout the eight weeks of the symposium, each student worked on their own project, which they presented to their peers in a showcase yesterday evening. The 2026 symposium was led by Dr. Sandy Goldie, Department Chair and Director of Music Education at VCUarts Music.
