Jazz, Music History | Adult, High School/College

Join Dr. Brian Jones for Jazz on Film, a course exploring the rich history of jazz’s connection with the cinema. From feature films about jazz, movies with jazz scores, documentaries on jazz musicians, and television series with jazz-centric subject matters, we will dissect the themes and music of various films as they relate to the world of jazz and the American (and global) cultural landscape. Films and TV shows that we will examine include The Connection, The Man with the Golden Arm, Treme, Bird, Ken Burns’ Jazz, Shadows, Jammin’ the Blues, Jazz on a Summer’s Day, ‘Round Midnight, and several others.

*There will be no class March 10, 2021.
